In a nation of quickly-expanding landfills, LivingHomes eliminates waste from every stage of the home-building process. Current, wasteful building practices consume finite resources and fill landfills with potentially useful, cast-off material. LivingHomes improves the process significantly. Modular design and fabrication processes reduce the waste of stick-built construction (typically forty percent!) to just two percent. In addition to modular production, we take several other steps to radically reduce construction waste.
Step 1
We offer deconstruction as an alternative to demolition of any existing house that may occupy the site of your new
LivingHome. Working with The Reuse People we deconstruct your
structure, separating all reusable or recyclable materials so they don't end up in a landfill. Plus, deconstruction
also gives you tax benefits so that it can cost less than demolition!
Step 2
We source local, recycled and/or reclaimed materials, as well as Environmentally Preferred Products (EPPs) and FSC
certified woods. Products bearing the FSC logo are guaranteed to be from a certified, well-managed
forest.
Step 3
We make our homes to last. This means our homes require less replacement materials and finishes, all of which would
require more resources. As part of this commitment, we produce, and adhere to an independently-verified Durability
Plan for each home. When at last your LivingHome has reached the end of its useful life, it can be usefully deconstructed.
And then the cycle repeats!
Step 4
Moveable millwork walls allow you to reconfigure your floor plan. If you feel the urge to remodel, our LivingHome
lets you move or remove a wall easily, without wasting new building materials. So you can expand a bedroom or create
a room for the drummer for your band. (The next Nirvana?)

In the U.S., buildings consume one-eighth of our water supply, one third of our total energy, and two-thirds of our electricity. (USGBC)
