We take many steps to reduce your home's carbon footprint. We use reclaimed and recycled materials, such as recycled glass tiles and cellulose-based counters throughout the home, reducing carbon by limiting emissions associated with the production of new goods. We source our materials locally as much as possible, often within a five hundred mile radius. Local sourcing minimizes air pollution from the trucks (or ships) required to transport materials to our factory.
To address the carbons that we do put into the atmosphere during the process of creating a new home, we have committed to a Carbon Offset Plan to pay for the "carbon cost" of construction and the first year of operating the home. A carbon offset is a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from a third party, aimed at canceling out or offsetting the emissions arising from a particular activity. The aim of this kind of program is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thereby combat global climate change. By offsetting carbon emissions, we neutralized carbon impact to reach zero.

When a home using 3600kw/year goes solar, it reduces its carbon impact by 4400 pounds a year. That's like NOT burning 1.44 TONS of coal or planting over half an acre of forest.
